The Pixma's archaic, low-tech control panel is not much to speak of, but the good news is that you can check ink levels simply by glancing at each color's inspection window on the front of the printer as shown below. The old-school control panel consists of a handful of navigation buttons, plus buttons for setting up scan and copy jobs. ![]() Of the bulk-ink models mentioned here, however, only the HP has a touch screen, and it's a monochrome one. A printer without an ADF lets you copy or scan pages one at a time, but it isn't really suited for multipage jobs.Īnother feature common to cartridge-based AIOs in this price range is that many of them sport color LCD touch screens. Of the machines mentioned above, only the Brother MFC-J805DW and the HP Smart Tank Plus 651 provide ADFs. Like its predecessor, the Pixma G3260 has no ADF, meaning you must place long documents on the scanning glass one page (or page side) at a time. What makes a printer an all-in-one is, of course, the inclusion of a scanner, and the proficiency of the scanner depends on whether it comes with an automatic document feeder (ADF) for handling multipage documents. HP's closest competitor to this Canon is its Smart Tank Plus 651 All-in-One, while Brother offers a few entry-level AIOs in its INKvestment Tank line, such as the MFC-J805DW. It's also close in size and girth to several Epson EcoTank competitors, including the EcoTank ET-2720 All-In-One Supertank and the EcoTank ET-2760 All-In-One Supertank. It's identical in size to its G3200 ancestor but about a pound heavier. Small and HumbleĪt 6.5 by 17.6 by 13 inches (HWD) with its trays closed and weighing in at 14.1 pounds, the Pixma G3260 is compact and light. In terms of features, print speed, and capacity, the G3260 is mediocre, but its ability to print documents for fractions of a cent-however slowly-makes it a great bargain for families and home offices. And its lower list price makes it, unlike many ink-tank printers, a terrific value up front or at the cash register. It prints impressive-looking documents and, as a bulk-ink machine refilled by bottles instead of cartridges, churns out snapshot-size photos for pennies, with some of the lowest running costs in the business. Overall, aside from being a little faster and $100 cheaper, this Pixma isn't very different from its predecessor. So while Christianity is 2,000-years-old, many of its core convictions are 3,000 to 4,000 years old. However, many Christian beliefs, like monotheism, are rooted in the Hebrew Bible or as Christians refer to it, the Old Testament. How old is Christianity? Jesus of Nazareth lived approximately 2,000 years ago. If one approaches history in this way, then Asatru’s beliefs predate Christianity. Germanic tribes date to the 9 th Century AD, though some believe that the Norse ideas date back even further to the Bronze Age. Most of the core beliefs of Asatru came from Germanic culture. (Also see Why Did the Vikings Worship Odin?) Some elements likely stretched back to the Bronze Age. However, as discussed above, these myths have their roots in ancient practices. Much of the images and myths that are taught in Asatru come from the Viking period. While the establishment of Asatru might be relatively recent, the beliefs that it embraces are a lot older. Some Bible scholars believe Noah’s flood dates to the 3rd millennium BC Is Asatru Older Than Christianity? It’s believed that his bones were used to make the mountains and the sea was created from his sweat. Because of this, Odin, the chief of the gods, killed him. Was Ymir good or evil? Over time, Ymir would turn into an evil being. They came from the sweat of his legs and armpits that formed when he was sleeping. ![]() He is described as a hermaphrodite who was able to conceive the other gods asexually. He was a giant who lived in the abyss of Ginnungagap.Īccording to the myths, he was born in fire and ice. The first god to appear in the Norse creation myth is Ymir. For example, Germanic tribes recognized a pantheon of gods to whom they made open-air sacrifices.Īlso see Norse Mythology vs Greek Mythology: What’s the Difference? Who was the First Norse god? It’s during this time, though exactly when is uncertain, that Germanic beliefs and practices shaped what is known as Norse mythology today. However, history reveals that in time, Christianity supplanted Norse mythology as the dominant worldview in the region.īronze Age hypothesis: Some historians suspect that Norse mythology originated in the Bronze Age, which covers approximately the three millenniums prior to the birth of Jesus Christ. Scandinavians may also have had economic motivations because Christians were more likely to trade with people who shared their views. The carvings may reflect that Scandinavians first added Christian figures to their Norse pantheon, as opposed to completely replacing their traditional belief system with a new one. The structure may have been a Norse temple that later became a Christian church. In one example, the carvings on a church depict Christian images as well as Norse gods. Norse mythology is much older than the 12th century, but little physical evidence has survived from previous centuries. Sometimes the evidence leads to conclusions that historians are confident in, but other times, because of limited data, it only leads to best guesses.Įvidence from the 12th century: Some of the earliest hard evidence of Norse mythology comes from the 12th century A.D. Historians attempt to piece together early Norse thought from sources that date much later than their creation. The first storytellers and their followers didn’t keep written records like people after them did. The exact origins of Norse mythology are lost to history. ![]() Water surrounds Scandinavia and Norse mythology contains many stories of sea creatures How Old is Norse Mythology? ![]() The polygon count for the Focus model is up to a staggering 13,000, as compared to about 800 for the previous game." "Graphically, the in-game models will be over 16 times more detailed than those in Colin McRae Rally 2.0. Rick Nath, associate-producer was quick to cut us off when we tried to pooh-pooh the idea. However, a quick call to Codemasters reaffirmed the fact -what you’re looking at here is actual in-game models of the new Ford Focus RS WRC. For that reason we were - to say the least - a touch sceptical when what were obviously a bunch of touched-up photographs landed on our desk claiming to be ingame models from forthcoming drive Colin McRae 3. ![]() We’re left with little choice but to declare Colin McRae Rally 3 the best driving game of E3.įor the past couple of years we’ve had to sift through buckets of mocked-up screenshots that purport to show in-game action when we know for a fact that you’ll never see the same detail when you pay your $34.99 and play the game proper. Of course the Colin McRae games have always been known for their excellent driving model: this time the game recreates every other aspect of a real rally season as well. We’ll never lose sight of the fact that people want gripping entertainment from this game." Which is good to hear. Part of the success of the previous games has been the balance between realism (in-car handling for example) and the fictional element (such as the stage design) which makes it a very rounded, wholly playable game. "The physics are much more detailed and complex than before. We asked Guy if this was a conscious decision. Despite this, CMR3 seemed to retain all of the entertainment elements of its predecessors. Probably the most notable technical enhancement is evident in the game’s physics, which are feeling even more realistic than before, and it was a constant battle to keep the car under control on the slippery and loose surfaces. A few quick (if cack-handed) laps round one of the eight stunningly replicated real-life courses confirmed they’re well on the way to achieving this. What we want to capture in CMR3 is that event experience," claimed Guy proudly. However, the main point about CMR3 is that we've been working with Colin and the Ford team for many years, and go out on the rallies with them, so we get to appreciate the excitement of the whole event. ![]() we’re taking the graphics and physics to a level we’ve always wanted. "With CMR2 we enhanced the original game, which had set the agenda and defined rally sport games. apart from the graphics (there are 14,000 polygons in each car as opposed to 800 in CMR2) which are looking little short of stunning. So we promptly accosted studio head and producer of the game, Guy Wilday, and bombarded him with questions to find out more.įirst off we wanted to know exactly what’s changed since CMR2. While we were gliding round the Codemasters stand (we were still fresh and keen at this point), we were taken aback by just how much this third instalment in the series stood out from the all the other racers at the show. It’s not often a racing game really catches our attention, but the Colin McRae games have always proved exceptions to that rule. ![]() The show thoughtfully tackled race, gender, and sexuality, often without having to say anything explicitly. ![]() It debuted in 2013 to critical acclaim and enough popularity that sustained it through Season 8, even found the show a new home at NBC after internet uproar. I wasn't using a pop filter for these samples, so I'd either need to incorporate one going forward, or back off the mic slightly. I think it sounds great on both, though I did pop the mic several times. Here's a sound sample of the Samson Satellite being used as a USB mic into Audacity, then as an iPhone mic with the Hokusai recording app. You can buy the Samson Satellite brand new on Amazon for $99, and Amazon UK for £105. You can toggle mute on and off without fumbling with the mic, or causing any jarring clicking sounds to be picked up in your audio. There's also a mute switch, nicely built as a touch activated button. This means you can hear if there's any issues with your audio, and immediately fix them. There's a headphone jack and volume control on the mic, to allow for active monitoring of your recordings. The Satellite does have the capability to be mounted on a boom arm though, so you can easily solve these issues if you're having them. Examples of this could be things like typing on the keyboard, or the odd dunt on the desk by an elbow or knee. Impact sounds will be picked up a desk-mounted mic. Sitting a mic on the desk in front of you isn't without its pitfalls. For example, you can tilt and lean it back, or stand it up straight. You can adjust its angle based on your own speaking style or preferences too. Its 3 legs fold down, enabling you to sit it on the desk in front of you. Cardioid is optimal for solo use (including online interviews), bi-directional is intended for two-person conversations, and omnidirectional is the best setting if you need to record multiple people gathered around the mic. Whereas influenza polymerase interacts directly with the host RNA polymerase II to snatch the caps of nascent transcripts in the nucleus 7, bunyavirus polymerases act in the cytoplasm. Transcription is initiated by a “cap-snatching” mechanism, whereby host 5′ capped RNAs are bound by the L cap-binding domain (CBD), cleaved by the L endonuclease domain several nucleotides downstream, and then used to prime synthesis of mRNA 2, 5, 6.Īlthough the overall mechanism of transcription initiation is likely conserved between sNSVs, several elements suggest some divergence between viral families. ![]() Replication generates full-length genome or antigenome copies (vRNA and cRNA, respectively), whereas transcription produces capped viral mRNA that are recognized by the cellular translation machinery to produce viral proteins. These processes are performed in the cytoplasm of infected cells for Bunyaviruses, whereas they occur in the nucleus for influenza virus 3, 4. Replication and transcription of sNSV viral genomic segments are performed by the virally encoded RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, also called L protein for Bunyavirales 2. Viruses from the Bunyavirales order are related to other sNSV and in particular to influenza virus, a major human pathogen belonging to the Orthomyxoviridae family. It contains serious human pathogens such as La Crosse virus (LACV, Peribunyaviridae family), Hantaan virus (HTNV, Hantaviridae family), Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV, Nairoviridae family), Rift Valley Fever virus (RVFV, Phenuiviridae family), and Lassa fever virus (LASV, Arenaviridae family). These structural details and the observed dynamics of key functional elements will be instrumental for structure-based development of polymerase inhibitors.īunyavirales is a very large and diverse order of segmented negative-strand RNA viruses (sNSV) comprising more than 500 species classified into 12 families 1. We capture the polymerase structure at pre-initiation and elongation states, uncovering the coordinated movement of the priming loop, mid-thumb ring linker and lid domain required for the establishment of a ten-base-pair template-product RNA duplex before strand separation into respective exit tunnels. It reveals the presence of key protruding C-terminal domains, notably the cap-binding domain, which undergoes large movements related to its role in transcription initiation, and a zinc-binding domain that displays a fold not previously observed. Here, we describe the complete high-resolution cryo-EM structure of La Crosse virus polymerase.
